My client is one of the leaders in their field with operations on all continents and a strong pipeline of exciting projects. The Group takes a long term and responsible approach to its business combined with a leadership style and culture that consistently creates business value.
A mega project which is planned to become a significant supplier to world markets is underway in Guinea. It involves the design, implementation and operation of a major mine, railway and a deep water port.

The mission:
The mission of the (M/F) General Manager – Port and Rail Operations will be threefold. During the study and design phase, the primary purpose will be to provide operational input to the study teams so that the evaluations of port and rail options take full account of operational issues.
Secondly the General Manager – Port and Rail Operations will manage the commissioning of the port and rail infrastructure, giving particular attention to the introduction and implementation of all operating systems.
Finally once commissioned, the General Manager – Port and Rail will be responsible for operational management of these two areas.
This key role will have critical impacts on the success of the Guinea project, on the sustainable development and optimization of resources and on all stakeholders in the project through the establishment of productive relationships. The role will be based in Conakry, Guinea.

The profile:
• Significant experience in the design and operational management of high-capacity industrial port and/or rail operations systems as well as in commissioning or starting up operations from scratch. Experience in the mining industry will be a considerable advantage.
• Highly developed leadership skills are required in the areas of management, organization, health and safety systems. Also required are complex problem resolution abilities as applied to both the strategic and operational domains.
• Proven technical abilities to interpret and interrogate rail and port design models, to evaluate and articulate alternative infrastructure and operating system options and to interact efficiently with design consultants and internal engineers.
• Experience working in developing economies, preferably including Africa, and the ability to relate effectively to people in complex cultural environments.
• Fluency in French as the official language of Guinea and English as the working language of the Group.
