The Simandou Project in Guinea is the hallmark project within Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s portfolio. The Simandou project is a world class undeveloped iron ore project within Guinea currently undergoing a Pre-feasibility Study due for completion at the end of 2008 followed by a Feasibility Study and mine construction commencing 2013.

SENIOR PROJECT GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER
The primary purpose of the role is to derive the Geotechnical input required to support mine planning and development, mainly in the areas of resource and reserve optimisation and extension. In addition, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership and training of the local geotechnical team to investigate, understand and mitigate or manage geotechnical risk.
Project and consultant management skills as well as building and training of a Guinean workforce are fundamental to the success of this role. To achieve the goals of the role the incumbent needs to both promulgate Geotechnical projects and studies throughout the business and ensure commitment to it from all relevant parties. This process relies on significant influencing skills from the role incumbent.
