Environmental Superintendent (Systems) - Guinea

Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Group is the custodian of Rio Tinto’s iron ore interests globally. Our operations including Pilbara Iron and HIsmelt® in Australia, Iron Ore Company of Canada and Rio Tinto Corumba in Brazil with immerging operations in India and Guinea, West Africa.

The global dimension to our iron ore business is best demonstrated by Simandou. The Simandou Project, Guinea, West Africa is a mega project within Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s portfolio.

The Simandou Project will involve implementing a 70Mtpa mine + 700km long rail + deep water port and aims to start construction during 2009.

We currently have the following exciting and challenging role that is pivotal in developing solutions to drive the future success of the Simandou Project.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUPERINTENDENT (SYSTEMS) - FIFO

The Environmental Superintendent (Systems) is a specialist role focused on the development and implementation of best practice environmental management systems and procedures for the Project. In this role you will provide expert support to the site-based operations and Project teams by identifying and delivering necessary, practical and integrated management systems.

As a specialist resource on-site, you will quickly establish an understanding of the unique operating environment and ensure the integration of all environmental systems into existing Project management systems. You will also provide visible leadership to teams to facilitate the achievement of Rio Tinto environmental standards and achieve continuous improvement in the awareness and understanding of environmental principles.

In addition to formal relevant qualifications and significant experience in mineral exploration or mining, you will have proven experience coordinating the development and implementation of integrated environmental management systems, with exposure to ISO14001 essential.

This role requires a strategic thinker, capable of evaluating areas of risk/opportunity and determining the best way forward to maximise the overall value for the Simandou project and to create a world class operation. A collaborative, influencing and outcome focused style will be critical to the individual’s success in this role, coupled with a willingness to spend significant amounts of time in field camps.
