Superintendent Process Improvement is responsible for the smooth functioning of the Concentrator metallurgical team, as well as the Metallurgical laboratory and metallurgical accounting. The Superintendent is accountable for ensuring that the team achieves the targets safely and cost effectively.
Specific responsibilities will include:
• Coordination of the activities of metallurgists and technicians to provide high-quality information for process development and support for the Concentrator milling, flotation, magnetic separation and dewatering areas.
• Developing and managing process optimization projects to meet the Concentrator five year business plans.
• Leading the metallurgical team in conducting testwork to quantify improvements to flowsheets and operating practices, and to justify new capital expenditures.
• Regular and effective communication with production and technical superintendents in the Mine, Concentrator, Smelter, Projects and Copper Planning departments will be essential to meet project schedules and maintain the rate of improvement.
• Custodian of metallurgical accounting for the Concentrator.
• Develop and/or review policies and procedures in response to all generic departmental activities (such as safety, environment, cost management)
• Close liaison with Rio Tinto Technology and Innovation team to ensure that the operations is benchmarked against other similar metallurgical sites across the group.
• Interpretation, implementation, auditing and enforcement of SHEQ quality standards and procedures, fulfillment of MSHA appointment responsibilities for Process Improvement section.
• Cost control of all operational resources in area of responsibility through optimal resource usage.

• Good communication/negotiation skills.
• Good data analysis and presentation skills.

• Good understanding and application of root cause analysis, theory and practice.
• Understand and be able to implement the principles and tools of continuous improvement
Qualifications and Experience
• B.Sc./ B.Eng./Btech. degrees or higher qualifications, with emphasis on mineral processing technology
• At least 5 years post-degree industrial or commercial research experience in base metal processing, of which 2 or more years should have been in a supervisory capacity
• Computer literate (Excel, Word , Outlook, Powerpoint and SAP).
